BPC-157

Also known as: Body Protection Compound 157, PL-10, PLD-116

BPC-157 is a pentadecapeptide (15 amino acids) derived from a protective protein found in human gastric juice. It is one of the most widely researched healing peptides, demonstrating extraordinary regenerative effects on tendons, ligaments, muscles, gut tissue, and the nervous system. It has shown protective and healing effects in numerous animal studies.

Half-Life

~4 hours

Common Dose

250–500 mcg per day

Route

Subcutaneous injection (or intramuscular near injury site)

Frequency

Once or twice daily

Mechanism of Action

BPC-157 works through several pathways including upregulation of growth hormone receptors in tendons, promotion of angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation), activation of the nitric oxide system, modulation of the dopamine and serotonin systems, and direct interaction with the growth hormone receptor signaling cascade. It appears to counteract NSAID-induced damage and has strong cytoprotective properties.

Reported Benefits

  • Accelerates healing of tendons, ligaments, and muscles
  • Promotes gut healing and reduces intestinal inflammation
  • Protects against NSAID damage to the gastrointestinal tract
  • Neuroprotective properties — may aid recovery from brain injuries
  • Anti-inflammatory effects throughout the body
  • May accelerate bone healing
  • Improves wound healing and skin repair
  • Modulates dopamine and serotonin, potential antidepressant effects

Side Effects

  • !Generally well-tolerated in animal studies
  • !Mild nausea in some users (usually transient)
  • !Lightheadedness occasionally reported
  • !Injection site irritation
  • !No significant adverse effects reported in human anecdotal use

Dosage Protocol

Common dose250–500 mcg per day
Range200–1000 mcg per day
FrequencyOnce or twice daily
AdministrationSubcutaneous injection (or intramuscular near injury site)

Notes

10 mg vial — reconstitute with 2 mL bac water → 5 mg/mL (5 units = 250 mcg, 10 units = 500 mcg on a U-100 syringe). For localized injuries, injection near the site is often preferred. Typical cycle length is 4–8 weeks (up to 12 for chronic issues), then 2–4 weeks off.

Research Status

Extensive animal research, Phase II clinical trials for inflammatory bowel disease (Pliva). No approved human therapeutic use currently.

Contraindications

  • Active malignancy (promotes angiogenesis — theoretical concern)
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Known hypersensitivity

Storage

Lyophilized: refrigerate. Reconstituted: refrigerate, use within 30 days.

Legal Status

Research chemical. Not approved for human therapeutic use.
