DSIP

Also known as: Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide

DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a 9-amino-acid neuropeptide first isolated from the cerebral venous blood of sleeping rabbits. As its name suggests, it promotes the delta-wave (deep, restorative) phase of sleep and has additional effects on stress reduction, pain modulation, and hormonal balance. Used by individuals with sleep disturbances, jet lag, or chronic stress.

Half-Life

~30 minutes (but effects on sleep persist longer)

Common Dose

100–300 mcg per night

Route

Subcutaneous injection

Frequency

Once daily

Mechanism of Action

The exact mechanism is not fully understood, but DSIP appears to modulate GABAergic activity, influence circadian rhythm regulation, reduce cortisol secretion, and increase delta-wave EEG activity during sleep. It also has analgesic and stress-buffering effects via interaction with the HPA axis.

Reported Benefits

  • Promotes deep, restorative sleep (delta phase)
  • Reduces sleep onset time
  • Helps with jet lag and shift work adjustment
  • Lowers cortisol and stress response
  • Mild analgesic effects
  • May improve mood
  • Non-addictive sleep aid

Side Effects

  • !Generally very well-tolerated
  • !Mild lightheadedness (rare)
  • !Drowsiness (intended effect)
  • !Injection site irritation
