Glutathione

Also known as: GSH, L-Glutathione, Reduced Glutathione

Glutathione is the body's master antioxidant — a tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine, and glycine produced naturally in every cell. It is essential for detoxification, immune function, and combating oxidative stress. Injectable glutathione bypasses poor oral absorption to directly raise systemic levels, supporting liver detox, skin brightening, immune defense, and anti-aging.

Half-Life

Short in plasma (~10 min), but cellular effects last much longer

Common Dose

200–600 mg per injection

Route

Subcutaneous

Frequency

1–3 times per week

Mechanism of Action

Glutathione directly neutralizes free radicals and reactive oxygen species. It is a critical cofactor for liver phase II detoxification (conjugation reactions), regenerates other antioxidants like vitamin C and E, supports mitochondrial function, and modulates immune cell activity. It also inhibits tyrosinase (the enzyme that produces melanin), which underlies its skin-lightening effect.

Reported Benefits

  • Powerful systemic antioxidant
  • Supports liver detoxification
  • Skin brightening / reduced hyperpigmentation
  • Anti-aging effects
  • Improved immune function
  • Reduces oxidative stress
  • Supports neurological health
  • Used in chronic illness and detox protocols

Side Effects

  • !Generally very safe
  • !Sulfur-like body or breath odor (transient)
  • !Mild GI discomfort
  • !Injection site irritation
  • !Rare allergic reactions

AdministrationSubcutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous injection (IV is most potent)

Notes

600 mg vial — reconstitute per provider protocol (typically with bac water or saline). Often cycled in 4–8 week blocks. Best paired with cofactors like vitamin C, NAC, and B vitamins for optimal antioxidant synergy.

Research Status

Extensively studied. Used clinically in some countries for liver disease, neurological conditions, and oxidative stress.
