Melanotan 2 (MT-2) is a synthetic analog of alpha-MSH that stimulates skin tanning, libido, and fat loss. It works on multiple melanocortin receptors, producing strong cosmetic tanning effects with much less UV exposure required, while also acting on MC4R to enhance sexual function (the basis for the related FDA-approved drug bremelanotide/PT-141).

Mechanism of Action
Melanotan 2 is a non-selective agonist of melanocortin receptors (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R). MC1R activation increases melanin production in skin (tanning); MC4R activation in the central nervous system enhances libido and sexual arousal; MC3R/MC5R activity contributes to appetite suppression and possible fat loss effects.

Dosage Protocol

10 mg vial — reconstitute with 2 mL bac water → 5 mg/mL: 5 units (0.05 mL) = 250 mcg. Start very low (250 mcg) to assess nausea tolerance. Some UV exposure is still needed to trigger pigment production. Stop dosing once desired tan is achieved; restart for maintenance.
Research Status
Originally developed at the University of Arizona for skin cancer prevention. Now widely used cosmetically. Related compound bremelanotide (PT-141) is FDA-approved for female sexual dysfunction.
